How to Set Up Google Search Console for Blogger: The Ultimate Guide

If you aren't using Google Search Console (GSC), you are essentially blogging with a blindfold on. You might be writing the best content in the world, but if Google’s bots are having trouble crawling your site, no one will ever find it.

Google Search Console is a free tool that acts as a direct line of communication between your Blogger site and Google. In this guide, I'll show you exactly how to set it up in 2026 to ensure your posts get indexed and ranked fast.

Why Every Blogger Needs Search Console

  • Instant Indexing: Instead of waiting weeks for Google to "find" your new post, you can request indexing to happen in minutes.

  • Keyword Data: See exactly which words people type into Google to find your blog.

  • Error Alerts: Get notified if your mobile design is broken or if a link is leading to a "404 Not Found" error.

Step 1: Add Your Property to GSC

  1. Go to the Google Search Console website and sign in with the same Google account you use for Blogger.

  2. Click the "Add Property" button in the top left dropdown.

  3. The Property Type Choice: * Domain: Choose this if you have a custom domain (e.g., www.yourblog.com). It tracks all versions of your site.

    • URL Prefix: Choose this if you are still using the free example.blogspot.com address. Paste your full URL (including the https://).

Step 2: Verify Ownership

Google needs to know you actually own the blog before showing you private data.

  • For Blogspot Subdomains: If you use the same Google account for both Blogger and GSC, Google will often auto-verify your site instantly. You’re done!

  • For Custom Domains: You will likely need to use the HTML Tag method.

    1. Copy the meta tag provided by GSC (it looks like <meta name="google-site-verification" content="..." />).

    2. Go to your Blogger Dashboard > Theme > Edit HTML.

    3. Find the <head> tag at the top of the code and paste your meta tag immediately below it.

    4. Click Save in Blogger, then go back to GSC and click Verify.

Step 3: Submit Your XML Sitemap (Crucial!)

A sitemap is a map of your blog that helps Googlebot find all your pages. Blogger generates this for you automatically, but you have to tell GSC where it is.

  1. In the GSC left-hand menu, click on Sitemaps.

  2. Under "Add a new sitemap," type: sitemap.xml

  3. Click Submit.

Pro Tip: If you have a lot of pages, you should also submit sitemap-pages.xml to ensure your "About" and "Contact" pages are discovered too.

Step 4: The 2-Minute SEO "Check-Up"

Once your site is connected, use the URL Inspection Tool (the search bar at the top of GSC).

  • Paste the link to your latest blog post there.

  • If it says "URL is not on Google," click Request Indexing.

  • This moves your post to the front of the line for Google’s crawlers!

Summary Checklist

  • [ ] Property added via URL Prefix or Domain.

  • [ ] Ownership verified (Auto-verify or HTML tag).

  • [ ] sitemap.xml submitted and showing "Success."

  • [ ] First post manually "Requested" for indexing.

By setting this up today, you’ve just given your blog a massive head start over the millions of "hidden" blogs that Google hasn't found yet.
